Today was a special day. Today I looked back at all the music I played over the past 52 weeks and played some of the new stuff that I really enjoyed.

I also announced on Air what my New Years Resolutions are and would like to repeat them here

Resolution # 1
To get fit. Not to loose weight, but to actually feel like I’m a heather person.

Resolution # 2
Get at least 3 stories in print. I have works here that are just collecting dust and I think they are ready for the world to read.

Resolution # 3
Wright at least 5 more stories. Come on I can at least get five rough drafts done in a year.

Resolution # 4
Get Organized. It would be nice to be able to find the things I need around here.

Resolution # 5
Bring Sexy Back! What? You don’t think I can do it?

And like I said on air, if any one catches me doing somthing oposed to what my resolutions are they can come up and kick me on the shins.

Well its that time of the year that they bring out the spookes of Christmas Past present and future and put a scare on on the skinflints of the world.

There is always a new version of A Christmas Carol going every year, be it a reading, play, book, comic, movie or T.V show. But to give Mr. Dickens his props he wrote a timeless story. A story that really tugs on the old heart strings, and from what I gather he just wrote it quick to get out of debt. I wonder if he realized how influential it was or would believe that it would still be so popular so many years after his death. During Dickens time traditional Christmas celebrations ere on the wane and it has been said that Dickens single handedly renewed traditional Christmas with his story.

Here are some of the Modern adaptation of the tale.

Scrooge (1951), starring Alastair Sim as Scrooge and Mervyn Johns and Hermione Baddeley as the Cratchits.

Mickey's Christmas Carol (1983), an animated short film featuring the various Walt Disney characters (including characters from Wind in the Willows, Robin Hood and The Three Little Pigs), with Scrooge McDuck fittingly playing the role of Ebenezer Scrooge. This version was based on the 1972 audio musical entitled Disney's A Christmas Carol. Most of the cast remained unchanged; however, in the audio version, Merlin (from The Sword in the Stone) and the Queen (from Snow White, in her hag guise) portrayed the Ghosts of Christmas Past and Future, respectively (the Ghost of Christmas Present was portrayed by Willie the Giant, as in the film version), whereas in the movie they were played by Jiminy Cricket and Pete.

Scrooged (1988), a remake in a contemporary setting with Bill Murray being a misanthropic TV producer who is haunted by the ghosts of Christmas. Directed by Richard Donner.

The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992), featuring the various Muppet characters, with Michael Caine as Scrooge. This adaption also adds a character named Robert Marley, who is Jacob's brother and was a second partner in Scrooge's business. He appears with Jacob as a ghost. The two are played by Statler and Waldorf. Also with Gonzo as Charles Dickens, with Rizzo the Rat tagging along, being "just here for the food."

Rich Little's Christmas Carol (1978), a HBO television special in which impressionist Rich Little plays several celebrities and characters in the main roles.
An American Christmas Carol (1979), an adaptation starring
Henry Winkler at the height of his fame from the television series Happy Days, where the story is set in Depression era New England, and the Scrooge character is named Benedict Slade.

Bugs Bunny's Christmas Carol (1979), an animated television special featuring the various Looney Tunes characters, with the role of Scrooge going to Yosemite Sam.

Northern Exposure used A Christmas Carol as the basis for its episode Shofar, So Good (1994), which depicts the Ghosts of Yom Kippur Past, Present, and Future visiting Dr. Joel Fleischman to encourage him to truly atone for his sins.

A Diva's Christmas Carol (2000), a humorous adaptation starring
Vanessa Williams as bitchy diva Ebony Scrooge who is transformed into a kind-hearted soul.

Blackadder's Christmas Carol (1988): a parody. In contrast to the typical Blackadder archetype — a conniving, selfish blackguard, the Victorian era Ebenezer Blackadder is a rather wet character, exploited by the other Christmas Carol characters who persistently take advantage of his good nature, reducing him to poverty. He is visited by a (single) Ghost of Christmas who shows him his ancestors (Lord Blackadder and Mr. E. Blackadder, butler to the Prince Regent), and two possible futures. One follows from Ebenezer emulating his "clever, charming . . . but disgraceful" ancestors and becoming "a complete b*****d" and sees his (eventual) descendant ruling the Universe. The other shows Ebenezer continuing as a doormat and leads to a future much less desirable. Convinced that he needs to change his ways he reclaims all that was taken from him the previous day and establishes himself as "the nastiest man in the world".

"Christmas Mikey" (2006 television episode) Season one Finale of Kappa Mikey, pitting Ozu in the role of Scrooge, and three Ghosts who resemble Japanese samurai.

Now I haven’t seen all of these, but I do believe I will be trying to hunt a few of them down.

Man what a show.

I was supposed to talk with Pat Finelli from Pizza Pizza, but we got our wires crossed somewhere along the lines and it was not to be. Still I got the pizza and Chicken that he sent for the taste testing.
We got in touch with each other later and made arrangements to have the interview later. So stay tuned.

This Friday we are starting our CKLU promotion drive at the Rainbow City center. We’ll have a booth set up and will be having giveaway’s, music, and as much tomfoolery as we can legally get away with.

I’m a bit anxious about this as I had a big roll in it. I went around to businesses to see about donations. I got some good stuff too. Deb thought I should get on the phone and contact the businesses that way. And she’s right. When we did sit down and do that we got a lot done, but I prefer to look the person in the eye and I’m there, if they want to give some thing I’m there and I could take it then. I guess I’m just old school that way.

Now I have mentioned previously on this show but I have to say that that I love the work of Terry Prachett. His is the Book the Mort series is from. I was sad to hear that he was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. In his Bio he says that his one fears is that someone will find out how much fun he is having writing and make him stop. I think some one found out.

Well winter is here. And it looks like it will be a good one. Now I expect at this time of the year that there will be snow, but for the past few years it’s been a light snow that melts away and we get hit hard around the New Year. I don’t think so this year. It came in thick and fast and caught a lot of people off guard. Including me. I forgot that on the last big storm last year I broke the snow float. I said Oh I’ll have plenty of time to get a new one before the next storm. Ooops. Oh well I’ll have plenty of time to get a new one before the next snow storm.
I couldn’t belive it when I heard that on the first day of the snow there was 28 traffic accidents. 28. How does that happen? Really were Subariens. Driving in snowy conditions is in our blood. True I have skidded out in winter conditions; three times, but I was able to control it and there was no accident. That is some thing I take pride in. but 28 accidents. What happened to people’s driving skills? A friend at work thinks it’s because of an inflow of new residents from Toronto. I can believe that. I’ve been in T.O in the winter. They do not change there driving skills, and that is the big thing to remember. Driving in winter is a lot different then in summer.

I sent a Special song out to my Friend Nancy.

It was I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas. There was a bit of in-joke behind me sending this out to here. (Which I am not going to tell you. I mean that’s what an in-joke is all about isn’t it?) Any way she wasn’t listening in and missed it. I guess I was a little paranoid that that would be the situation so I down loaded it to my MP3 and brought it into work. Well it was a rough shift and she looked like she needed a cheering up so I grabbed my player and gave her the ears. She listened and then she laughed. And then she laughed some more. I think she needed that.

Well that’s that for now.

Don’t forget there is still time to vote for the And Now Show http://www.cklu.ca/ for our lighteners choice awards

Until next time have fun and take care of each other.

Here comes Santa Clause

Tract list

Mort Part 3
Steve Martin / What is Christmas / SNL
Vince Guaraldi Trio /Christmas Time is Here / A Charlie Brown Christmas

Not a big Tract list today, because Saturday was the Santa Clause parade.
For close to ten years I have been helping my Mother with the clowns at the Santa Parade and it’s been a blast.

This year was my Mom’s last year, my Dad thinks that last year should have been her last year, but she stuck it in for one more year but now it’s someone elses problem now. I wonder what the committee is going to do.

Mom said they told here that the had talked with a woman who said that she would like to take over and that she would help get things together (which makes sense to learn what needs to be done from the people who know before you take over) but she never showed up. Next year should be an interesting show. I bet they call on Mom to do it again.

I just hope they get someone who knows what there doing with the banners. We lost half our volunteers to the banners because they didn’t get any one.

And don’t get me started on how the committee treated my Dad. Poppa had been there Santa of over ten years, you would think that they would show him a little more respect then hand out his position out from under him ( to someone mind you that didn’t even have his own beard)

Still every one I’ve talked to who watched the parade said that it was fun and the volunteers said they are looking forward to next year and I guess that’s all that madders. That the people of Sudbury had a good time.

Mission complete.

I feel better now.

I always look forword to my monthly visits with Natalie at Bertolo’s Hommeade Foods (Down town across from the ‘Y’) and this month she had something good. She made two incredible cheese balls.

They were easy, coulourfull, and delicious. I think it was one ofour best shows. And whad did I do? I droped my recorder midway through. I thought It was all working fine, but something was wrong and I am missing half of the show.

Well I’ll see Natalie soon and post a copy of the resipie here.

AND NOW . . . the news.

Here is some of the strange stuff that’s going on out there:

Donna and Joel Brinkle of Deltona, Fla., raised a family and held respectable jobs until, in the 1990s, they declared themselves a sovereign nation and stopped paying taxes. Subsequently, the county took their home, and they now appear to be living on the handouts of their son and their church, but they have become irritations by filing property liens against government officials (including, once, President Clinton) who fail to recognize their independent authority. Once, they tried to buy a $700,000 house with a "money order" drawn on their home-made currency. Even though the Brinkles' game plan has failed on every single point (and Joel even did some jail time), the couple remains chipper, according to an October Orlando Sentinel report, certain that some higher official will soon vindicate them. [Orlando Sentinel, 10-14-08]

Unlike their American counterparts, debt collectors in Spain are legally allowed to humiliate deadbeats in front of relatives and neighbors, and are thus quite successful, according to an October Wall Street Journal dispatch from Madrid. One collector's employees make flamboyant house calls in "top hat and tails" and another's are dressed as Franciscan friars, and yet another collector sends bagpipe players to announce the debt to the entire neighborhood. One debtor hurriedly paid off his daughter's wedding tab when the collector found the ceremony's guest list and began billing each attendee for his or her "share" of the debt. [Wall Street Journal, 10-11-08

In August, as Duke University's football team was preparing for the kickoff against James Madison University in Durham, N.C., two men parachuted into the stadium with the game ball. That was impressive, but they were actually supposed to have delivered the game ball to the stadium in Chapel Hill, 10 miles away, where North Carolina was hosting McNeese State. [Atlanta Journal-Constitution, 8-30-08

What started as a "strong-arm" street robbery in Warren, Mich., in October, ended when the victim turned out to be stronger than the perp. When it was over, the victim had gotten his money back, plus $30 of the mugger's as the man fled, according to a police report in the Macomb Daily. [Macomb Daily, 10-9-08]

A plumbing error in October at the annual Grape Festival in Marino, Italy, stymied the traditional hook-up in which white wine cascades through the famous fountains in the center of town. Instead, water continued to run in the fountains, but "10 to 12" nearby homeowners must have thought it glorious divine intervention, briefly, when they opened their taps and found white wine flowing freely. [BBC News, 10-8-08]

Finally don’t forget that on the 11th it’s Remembrance Day so on the 11th hour remember them.

Sorry about the late posting, but I needed to wait until I got some film developed so I could scan them in. You see I don’t use a digital camera, I use to, but it died on me so I went back to my old manual and to tell the truth I find it more dependable then digital. Mind you I miss the convenience of being able to but pictures strait into my computer, the quality of the pictures are better with my Pentax.

But I digress

I hope every body had a grand Halloween. Was the Great Pumpkin good to you all?

How about the 'Grand' Pumpkin?

I had some fun I went to Little MontrĂ©al’s here in Sudbury and saw the Trixx. There good. I’m hopping to get to play some of there tunes soon. One thing that got me was the lack of costumes I saw.

I really didn’t see anything until late around eleven I think, at the bar. But I didn’t see any kids and I’ve been hearing the same from people at work. Their are fewer and fewer trick or treaters going out there. I guess parents are just too scared to send there kids out at night. Which is a shame.

I sent out a special song for my friend Chinelo for obvious reasons. She was the only server to dress up at work on Friday.

We had a Pumpkin carving contest and only a few people wanted to participate. I love carving Jack O'Lanterns. This year I did something different. Insted of a pumkin I used a hubbard squash. I was at the farmers market and at on of the stans they has these MASSIVE squashes and I thought to myself that one of those would look really cool as a Jack O'Lantern. What so you think?

Saturday night was also time to set you’re your clock’s back and hour.

We caught a few people at work with that. I chastised them on the fact that if they had just tuned in they wouldn’t be in this mess. Still better to be early then late.

I wonder how many across Sudbury came into work early because they didn’t pay attention to the time shift.?

Don’t forget to tune in this Saturday when We will have another edition of K.I.S.(s) in the Kitchen.

We got a week until Halloween and I am proud to have been the one to kick off the celibrations here at CKLU.

I love Halloween. It’s one of the most fun holidays going. True that it is looked at mainly as a time to be scared (wich is nice) I see it as more as a time to let out your creativity and imagination.

What other hollidya lets you become something other and get free candy from strangers.

If your looking for a scare for the whole family here is a top 10 list of spooky movies from the List Universe that wont keep you up defending the house from nightmears.

10 Hocus Pocus

1993

More than 300 years ago, 3 witches were sentenced to die in Salem, Massachusetts and a boy was turned into a cat (a black cat, naturally). Now it’s Halloween, and the witches (who fly on - I kid you not - vacuum cleaners) are back. This time, they’ve got their eyes on immortal life and have turned their wrath on trick-or-treaters and it’s up to the 300-year-old cat to save the day.

9. Corpse Bride

2005

When an arranged marriage between Victor Van Dort and Victoria Everglot reaches the rehearsals, Victor starts to worry. Spending time alone in the forest, Victor decides to practice on his own. Everything seems to go well, until he accidentally puts the ring upon the hand of a corpse. Before he knows it, Victor is in the land of dead and now has a corpse bride. Whilst everyone’s worries about who Victoria will marry in the land of the living, Victor desperately finds a way to get back.

8. Casper

1995

Furious that her late father only willed her his gloomy-looking mansion rather than his millions, Carrigan Crittenden (Moriarty) is ready to burn the place to the ground when she discovers a map to a treasure hidden in the house. But when she enters the rickety mansion to seek her claim, she is frightened away by a wicked wave of ghosts. Determined to get her hands on this hidden fortune, she hires afterlife therapist Dr. James Harvey (Pullman) to exorcise the ghosts from the mansion. Harvey and his daugh- ter Kat (Ricci) move in, and soon Kat meets Casper, the ghost of a young boy who’s “the friendliest ghost you know.”

7 Monsters, Inc.

2001

In a land of monsters, James P. Sullivan is king. He and his coworker/ friend Mike Wazowski are two of many monsters that work for Monsters Inc. a utility company that generates power for a very paranoid and nervous city of monsters. This power, oddly enough, is generated from the screams of children, which is produced by scaring them in their sleep. One night, however, Sully uncovers a devious plot to rid Monster city of it’s power problems, but in all the wrong ways. Together, ironically, Sully and Mike will fight to protect the innocence of the children they scare every night.

6. The Witches

1990

A young boy, recently orphaned, is taken to England by his grandmother. At a hotel in which they are staying, a group of witches have gathered to prepare a plot to rid the world of all children. This movie is based on the wonderful book by Roald Dahl and stars Anjelica Huston and Rown Atkinson. This is a film that the kids will definitely love. This film was produced by Jim Henson.

5. Something Wicked This Way Comes

1983

In a small anywhere town in any state in America, two young boys- quiet Will Halloway and somewhat rebellious Jim Nightshade-enjoy the ever-shortening days of autumn. When the boys hear about a strange traveling carnival from a lightning rod salesman, they decide to see what it is all about-but Will is fearful, as most carnivals end their tours after Labor Day. When the ominous Mr. Dark, the Illustrated Man, rides into town on a dark midnight, setting up his massive carnival in a matter of seconds, the boys are both thrilled and terrified. A great film by Ray Bradbury.

4. Pufnstuf

1970

Originally a television program, the Pufnstuf film was a real gem and has outlived the series. One of the best things about this film is that it stars Mama Cass (Cass Elliot) from the Mamas and the Papas, as Witch Hazel. The show and the film were both notable for bright colors, fast edits, sped-up film, musical segments and pop culture in-jokes, and appealed to young adults almost as much as children. Central to the film is young Jimmy and his magic flute, and a group of wicked witches who want to capture the flute for themselves. The series and movie are named after one other important character, a friendly dragon.

3. The Nightmare Before Christmas

1993

Jack Skellington, the pumpkin king of Halloween Town, is bored with doing the same thing every year for Halloween. One day he stumbles into Christmas Town, and is so taken with the idea of Christmas that he tries to get the resident bats, ghouls, and goblins of Halloween town to help him put on Christmas instead of Halloween — but alas, they can’t get it quite right.

2. Beetle Juice

1988

After Barbara and Adam Maitland were killed in a car crash, they find themselves trapped as ghosts in their beautiful New England farmhouse. Their peace is disrupted when a yuppie family, the Deetzs, buy their house. The Maitlands are too nice and harmless as ghosts and all their efforts to scare the Deetzs away were unsuccessful. They eventually turn to another ghost ‘Beetlejuice’ for help…

1. Ghost Busters

1988

Three odd-ball scientists get kicked out of their cushy positions at a university in New York City where they studied the occult. They decide to set up shop in an old firehouse and become Ghostbusters, trapping pesky ghosts, spirits, haunts, and poltergeists for money. They wise-crack their way through the city, and stumble upon a gateway to another dimension, one which will release untold evil upon the city. The Ghostbusters are called on to save the Big Apple. This film is a timeless cult classic.

I also gave a shout out to two scare shows here in the greater Sudbury area. First off Northern Frights set up a hunted Mall at the food court of the Rainbow center downtown. I checked it out a few day ago and it’s freaky and once again the Big Nickel Mine has there haunted cavern at Dynamic Earth. I went to it last year and loved every freaky minute. It’s scary enough going eight miles under the ground. Ad people in fright masks jumping out of the dark t me and you have a definite bring spare undies situation on your hands.

So your homework for this week is to get the ol’ grey cells working and start your planning for this Friday.

Until next time

Have fun

And take care of each other.

It was a busy day today. We had a staff meeting at work today so to both attend the meeting and entertain you all I rented a car, props to the guys at Rent a Wreck for the great deal they gave me though. I am really glad that they opened up a shop in town. I can/t afford a vehicle but on times when I really need one it’s nice that we have a place where I can get a good car at the cheep.

Started off the show with part two of Sherlock Homes vs. Dracula. This was a great find. Not just the story but the music and the sound FX made this a very eerie and compelling listen. I did a bit of research and found that; aside from the graphic novel I talk aboaut last week, there was only a few books with Homes and Drack. The best known was written in 1978 by Loren D Eateman called Sherlock Homes vs. Dracula or the Case of the Sanguinary Count. There was a rumor that Hammer films were going to make it into a movie, but nothing came of it which I think is a shame. That would have been so cool.

I hope you all had a great Sweetness Day. What? You never heard of Sweetness Day? Well neither had I until recently. It’s a holiday in the northern US for people to get together and give sweets to the underprivileged. in there community. This is a great idea. It’s a way of saying that every one is important, no matter what their station in the community is.

Tune in next Saturday for my Halloween Show. It’s going to be really Spooky.

I Usually play more then 15 tracts but today as a busy day.
First off my Morning drama was longer then usual. My starting drama a half hour show at the beginning of my show but SH v. D ran 45 min, but come on, it’ Sherlock Homes and Dracula together! I had to play it. While I was traveling I found a Graphic called Scarlet by Gaslight, witch was Homes and Drack. It was a great story but different from the drama I’m playing. The show takes place along with what happened in the book, while S by G happened after what happened in the book. Also in the Drama Sherlock is quick to acknowledge who and what his adversary is and Watson is the doubter, while in the S by G , Watson quickly accepts that Drac is a Vampire while Homes as a (temporary) break down when he confronts Drac.

Second, as per my want I like to research holidays that are coming up in the week so I gave a brief history of Canadian Thanksgiving.
Did you know . . .

Thanksgiving is a statuary Holiday in all of Canada except New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Prince Edward Island.

The fist Thanksgiving was in 1578 held by explorer Martin Frobisher. (Even though it celebration of thanks have been held by various First Nations groups for centuries)

Thanksgiving was made Official on January 31 1957.

No? Well now you do.

I was also reminding people about the election on Tuesday. I’m looking forward to it. The only problem is I’m not sure where to vote. I’m sure I’ll figure it out.
Finaly I spent a good bulk of the show telling light bulb jokes. At Word on the street I picked up a book called Light Bulb 101 by Todd Vercoe. It’s over 4800 Light bulb jokes that he has collected from around the world.

How many radio general managers does it take to change a light bulb?

“It’s not in the budget. Work in the dark”

How many Oldies Radio program directors does it take to change a light bulb?

Three: One to change the bulb, and two to reminisce about the old one.

How many radio jocks does it take to change a light bulb?

“We had a light bulb in here”

And of core I had to have one for each of the parties.

How many Conservative Party members does it take to change a light bulb?

Any number: They’re all really good at screwing up.

How many Green Party members does it take to change a light bulb?

None: They use light bulbs that never burn out, so they don’t know how.

How many Liberal Party members does it take to change a light bulb?

It depends on how many of their friends are electrical engineers

How many NDP members does it take to change a light bulb?

None: They use candles because it creates more work.

How many honest politicians does it take to change a light bulb?

When we find one we’ll let you know.

So there we go here is my first official Blog. Not that bad is it. Leave a comment and let me know.
